Biography
Awarded:
2004 Trial Lawyer of the Year, Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association
1997 Trial Lawyer of the Year, Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association
During his more than thirty years of experience practicing law, Richard Brenneman has litigated and tried complex cases involving tens of millions of dollars and lasting as long as ten weeks. He was honored as “Trial Lawyer of the Year” in 1997 and 2004 and the Los Angeles Daily Journal recognized him as one of the top twenty trial lawyers in California. He has achieved multi-million dollar jury verdicts on behalf of his clients including a $20-million verdict in a personal injury case involving a client who developed RSD and a $6.7 million verdict in a civil rights case involving the fraudulent designation of wetlands on private property. This 42 U.S.C. section 1983 case against the County of Santa Barbara Planning and Development Department established the precedent that government employees can be held personally responsible for their fraudulent acts on the job.
In addition to his courtroom victories, Richard Brenneman has obtained millions of dollars in out-of-court settlements for his clients. Mr. Brenneman has successfully represented clients in business, real estate, and personal injury cases as well as in matters concerning governmental abuse. He has extensive experience in handling cases involving motor vehicle accidents, toxic contamination, product liability (defective product that cause injury or harm), medical negligence (including elder abuse and medical malpractice), civil rights cases, and employment discrimination and harassment cases.
